Top 8 Health and Fitness Resolutions for Dancers and Pro Cheerleaders

New year, new you. This means you also should have new health, fitness, and pro cheer resolutions. Here are 8 fresh resolution concepts for a better 2021 pro cheer life ahead.

1. Be specific about your pro cheer goals

For example, if slimming is one of your pro cheer goals this year, set a target waistline measurement with a deadline. Specificity is important because it helps you make a focused, efficient, effective workout program.

But first, you must ask yourself if you can achieve the goal based on the strength of your commitment and attitude. Better yet, train yourself to strictly commit to your goal plans.

2. Be active whenever and wherever you can

Make your workouts and dance practice non-negotiable. If you’re away on a vacation or if it’s raining outside, you must make a resolution to still sweat. Good tips include carrying your workout attire and dance wherever you go, investing in home workout equipment, setting up a home dance studio, walking, running, and cycling to destinations.

3. Increase fruit and vegetable consumption

Fruits and vegetables aren’t just rich in nutrients that boost your health and beauty. They can also help you stay full throughout the day which would help you control sugar cravings without making you gain unnecessary weight.

Plan your 2021 meals to have more veggie and fruit ratio than meat. Buy raw goods and avoid processed ones.

4. Getting 7 or more hours of sleep every night

Proper sleep every night is essential for everyone. For those living the pro cheer life, it helps your muscles recover from soreness, keeps your immune system function strong, and maintains your mental health. Yet, we tend to take it for granted due to the entertainment technology provides.

This year, limit your device usage, especially at night. Sleep early and rise early to have more time for exercising, energy for everyday activities, and a stress-free mind.

5. Drink more water

Just like getting proper rest, drinking a lot of water gives your body the resource to function at maximum potential. A well-hydrated body is more energetic, has increased metabolism, improved brain function, and is clean of toxins.

Instead of drinking soda or other junk beverages like last year, go for infused water or eat more water-rich foods this 2021.

6. Adopt a regular outdoor activity

Traditional workouts like running and lifting can be dull and hard to stick to especially if you don’t like doing them. That’s why you should have at least one physically-demanding outdoor activity to be excited about doing.

It can be anything like rock-climbing, kayaking, tennis, and gravel biking.

7. Prioritize muscle recovery

Every demanding workout would cause muscle soreness. This makes you miss more workout sessions, pro cheer prep activities, squad activities, work, or time in school. Always remember to stretch or massage your muscles after exercising.

Eat more protein while recovering and drink a lot of water. You can also use foam rollers, massage guns, and compression sleeves to increase muscle recovery and minimize the pain from muscle soreness.

8. Achieve a higher strength personal record

Set a goal of being able to perform more reps and sets than your current strength training program. Do more cardio for increased stamina as well. Be stronger, faster, and more enduring for dancing than you were last year.

For all the pro cheer and fitness goals you have failed to complete last year, this year is your chance to work on them even harder. If you have successfully achieved last year’s pro cheer objectives, good for you. All you have to do is improve upon your last year’s progress. Believe in yourself, I know you can do it!
