Useful Tricks to Minimize the Appearance of Stretch Marks (for Auditions and Performances)

Stretch marks are natural. For some, they’re a byproduct of puberty and for others, they’re remembrances of childbirth and weight loss. You can wear your stretch marks proudly. They show that you’re a confident and beautiful woman. But if you want to minimize their appearance, especially for photo shoots and performances, the good news is that you won't always need surgery. Read on to know your options.

1. Apply vitamin A topical cream

Chemical compounds related to vitamin A or retinoids are known for making the skin smoother and youthful. A study from 2005 found that tretinoin, a potent form of retinol, helped stretch marks appear less severe and small. Retinoid creams are available over-the-counter. Check your local pharmacy for them.

2. Spread hyaluronic acid on the area

Hyaluronic acid is a common ingredient in skin care products that act as a moisturizing agent. But higher concentrations of it are found on serums. If you already have a bottle of hyaluronic acid at home, make it part of your skincare routine to apply drops of it on your stretch marks.

3. Buy Centella

Centella Asiatica, also known as Pennywort or Gotu kola, is an herb that’s used as a popular ingredient in Korean beauty products. It was originally applied to treat scars and promote collagen production. Products containing Centella are called cica creams and are getting popular in the US. However, brace your wallet as they can be expensive.

4. Put aloe vera

Used as a popular natural treatment for burns and wounds since ancient Egypt, aloe vera jelly has properties that can repair damaged skin. It’s good to have at least two pots of aloe vera at home so you won’t have to buy them in a market. Aloe vera can also boost hair growth and strength, making it a must-have for pro cheerleaders.

5. Use sunless tanning products

Before applying a sunless tanning lotion or spray on your stretch marks, exfoliate the area well so your skin will absorb the products well. Sunless tanning products won’t make your stretch marks go away but they can certainly hide them for a long time just for important pro cheer events.

6. Stay hydrated and eat collagen-boosting foods

Collagen is vital to the elasticity of our skin. Our body produces it naturally by combining amino acids, vitamin C, copper, zinc, and water. Include citrus fruits and protein-rich foods in your diet. Then stay hydrated all the time by drinking plenty of water or beverages containing electrolytes.

Don’t feel insecure about having stretch marks. 90% of women can get them. Stretch marks also go away with time. If you have some and want to be part of your dream pro cheer team, you can always conceal them with a sunless tanning lotion before attending the auditions.

When there are no important pro cheer activities, apply the natural topical treatments found above on a daily basis. Then, be patient until all your stretch marks are gone. The trick is not to stress about them.
