8 Tips to Have More Time and Money for Audition Prep

When an NFL or NBA pro cheer team announces the opening of their auditions, they usually give applicants a month to prepare for it. For new and rookie aspiring cheerleaders, this could come as a shock because it’s not easy to make quick adjustments to daily schedules for audition preparation activities.

Furthermore, there’s the fact that most teams have application registration fees. They also encourage aspiring pro cheerleaders to attend audition prep classes and workshops which require a fee. This could be a challenge for hardworking future candidates on a budget.

We want you to achieve your dream of making the squad of your choice no matter your circumstances. Which is why in this article, we’re giving you tips for saving time and money in preparation for a pro cheer team audition.

1. Skip the month’s Netflix subscription

You can live without Netflix. The truth is, it will be one of your reasons to stay up late every night. Proper sleep is essential during audition prep. Cut your subscription a month prior to an audition. You won’t just save money, but you’ll also have more time for sleep and the energy to do more important things.

2. Audition prep over leisure

We all love to have our free time to relieve ourselves from the stresses of life. However, time is of the essence when you only have a month to prepare for a pro cheer audition. Instead of having your weekly escapade, use that precious time to earn more money by going overtime or use your free days to master your audition presentation dance routine.

3. Make DIY weights

Don’t apply for a gym membership. Make your own weights at home. You can fill two eco-bags with random heavy objects and use them as kettlebells. You can also fill water containers with sand and strap them to a metal pipe for a dumbbell. Lastly, you can even fill two cans of paint with concrete, stick a metal pipe in their middles, and let them dry to be used as a barbell.

4. Make most of your meals at home

Limit fast foods, takeouts, or eating in restaurants. Not only are most options unhealthy, but they tend to be costly. Instead, prepare your own meals and eat smart. Don’t believe the myth about healthy food costing more. Buy fresh produce, unprocessed meats, learn a variety of healthy recipes, and master portion control.

5. Utilize park amenities for cardio training

As mentioned earlier in this article, there’s no need to be a gym member. Run around the nearest park. Use unoccupied benches for step-up exercises. Use the children’s monkey bar to do pull-ups and chin-ups. Parks are also good places to practice tumbles, cartwheels, and other stunts to help you impress audition judges.

6. Prioritize your needs over your wants

Are you guilty of being an avid shopper? The next time you see a new cute dress, just forget about it. Remember, you need the money for your audition prep. Make a habit of thinking more than ten times before you buy something that’s not a necessity.

7. Buy genuine discount cosmetics only

As an aspiring pro cheerleader, it’s essential to know proper cosmetics application, especially the makeup style squad members use. However, when buying mascara, foundations, eyeshadows, and others, refrain from buying the new releases if you cannot afford them. Here’s a tip: Go for the ones that are on sale. In addition, pay attention to the expiry dates and never buy fake or counterfeit makeup.

8. Walk, bike, and commute

Owning a car is expensive. You also have gas costs on top of that. Why not commute, walk, bike, or do all to reach your destinations? After all, these strategies are extremely beneficial for helping you stay fit by burning extra calories and body fat.

Making sudden lifestyle changes to save money and have more time for audition prep can be challenging, especially if you’re already comfortable with your current situation. However, sacrifices need to be made to achieve your pro cheer dream.

It helps to remind yourself that once you become a bonafide squad member, the things you used to worry about would be reduced to rehearsals, live performances, and public appearances — new and rewarding experiences that make your pro cheer journey worthwhile!
