How to Increase Your Confidence for the Upcoming Auditions

If you have just taken the big decision to become a pro cheerleader, it’s very normal to feel nervous. New things are exciting, but sometimes they can be scary too.

We are not born experts and this fact can sometimes shake us up a bit and doubt ourselves. Say, your dance skills. You’re good with a certain type of dance, but you’re not an expert in every kind of dance. This is where fear sets in. 

Self-confidence is something that we build up and not something we achieve overnight.

The key to achieving self-confidence is preparation.

In pro cheerleading, there are a lot of preparations to be made. There’s pro cheerleading ins and outs, your physique, your skin, your hair even, and your skills.

Preparing yourself before auditions can make you more competent, and when you’re competent, you become confident.

Here are 7 things that you can do to build up your confidence for pro cheer auditions

1. Visualize your goal.

Where do you want to be after all these? Pro cheerleading, of course! Keep that version of yourself that you want to achieve in your head or if you can, make a vision board. A vision board is a great way to manifest your dream. Take a look at that whenever you’re doubting yourself or whenever you’re scared and unsure.

2. Say it out loud.

Invite self-confidence by affirming yourself. Look at yourself in the mirror every day and tell yourself that you can do it. Remember, the best kind of trust is the one that you give to yourself. Let the positivity pour in. Say it out loud and say it every day: I am confident! I can do this!

3. Don’t compare!

Even if you have the same goals as someone you know, your journey will be different from her. She will have something she’s good at that you can’t do, and you will have something that you’re an expert at that she can’t do. That’s ok. You’re in this journey constantly learning and improving. So stop looking over the neighbor’s fence and focus on growing your own. 

4. Practice self-care. 

Don’t be too hard on yourself. The road to pro cheerleading will not always be a smooth ride, so when things don’t go your way, don’t get disheartened. It happens. No one is perfect. What’s important is that you will find a way to build yourself up again.

5. Set small goals. 

Your one big goal is to pass pro cheerleading auditions. So you will feel your progress, cut your big goal into small goals. Today, make it a goal to start on good skincare. Tomorrow, pamper your hair. This week, aim to lose at least 2 to 3 lbs by working out. Next week, start working on a certain type of dance. This makes it easier for you to work your way up, not to mention it’s a great way to stay motivated and boost your confidence when you know you’re able to win your small goals. 

6. Embrace your fears

In life, we have put off a great number of things because we’re not confident enough to do them. We hold back because we’re afraid. Look at your fears straight in the eye and instead of telling yourself “I can’t do this”, tell your fear “I will conquer you.” It makes a lot of difference.

7. More importantly, practice!

And of course, we can’t forget this. Practice! Practice hard and well so you know everything by heart. Like I said earlier, you can achieve confidence when you’re competent. Go performance level even if it’s just practice. Feel how you’d like to feel when you’re already on the stage.
