How to Keep a Positive Attitude While Working Towards Your Pro Cheer Goals

A positive attitude focuses on all the wonderful possibilities that an experience has to offer. Meanwhile, a negative attitude focuses on the negatives. It makes your life difficult because it limits your capabilities.

Let me ask you a question: Are you keeping a positive attitude while you are trying to achieve your goal of becoming a professional cheerleader?

As a candidate, each day can bring challenges. They’re inevitable. But you need to realize that your ability to succeed begins with the way you deal with your circumstances - no matter what they are.

In this article, you will discover five ways to maintain a positive attitude:

1. Focus on the small good things.

You have to accept that there is no such thing as a perfect day. You could plan how your day will go, but anything unexpected can happen. Perhaps you get stuck in traffic or a family member needed your help. But think about the benefits of your situation. They’re opportunities to increase your patience. And know that you’ve still got 15-30 minutes to workout or review your audition material when you get home.

2. Decide how you are going to respond ahead of time.

Surely, there are certain things that upset you. Before they happen, make a decision that you’re not going to react negatively. You have a choice to not let these things distract you. You can change the situation and move forward by doing the next best possible thing!

3. See the materialization of your goals.

If you want to become part of an NFL, NBA, or semi-professional cheer/dance team, you must visualize your success often. All top performers (athletes, entrepreneurs, musicians, etc.) do this. Before they actually perform, they picture every little detail of their success scenario. All throughout the day, imagine yourself having an amazing audition performance.

4. Be your own encourager!

Encouraging others brings out the best in them. But do you encourage yourself to start with? Routinely speak good things to yourself - out loud and in your mind. Put up reminders about how far you have come - through pictures and handwritten notes. Thank yourself for doing your best and showing up each day even when you’re tired.

5. Always be curious.

A mind that is closed to learning is negative. There is always something new to learn that will take your audition prep to the next level. Whether you encounter a setback or an opportunity presents itself, ask yourself, “What is this trying to teach me? How is this able to improve my [skill]?”

Get started with just one tip from the list above. Do the daily work of keeping a positive attitude. Soon it will become a habit that makes you successful in the auditions, but also in other areas of your life.
