Lessons You Can Learn from Great Athletes That Will Help Your Pro Cheer Audition Prep Journey

Pro cheerleading is a sport. Although it isn’t a competition like the games of the teams you’ll cheer for in the future, the career still requires a battle of athleticism and wits during the audition rounds. And only the best of the aspirants will make it to their dream teams.

Like sports, there are no better people who you can learn valuable lessons from other than the sportsmen who’ve played the game. In this article, we’re sharing five quotes from famous athletes and their attitudes towards fitness that helped them become successful at what they did.

1. Loving yourself starts with loving your heart

We can never reach our goals and live a happy life unless we value our health. As the boxer Gene Tunney said, “Exercise should be regarded as tribute to the heart.” And this organ is one of those we cannot live without. So if you value yourself and the life you’re living as well as your ambitions to be a pro cheerleader, you must stay healthy through regular workouts.

2. A healthy diet and a fitness regime always go together

“Exercise is king. Nutrition is queen. Put them together and you’ve got a kingdom.” – Jack Lalanne, the Godfather of Fitness. No matter how hard you exercise and how strict you are in your workout schedule, if you don’t follow a healthy and balanced diet, all your efforts will be naught.

Yes. You can have a fit body due to a rigid training program but also have your arteries clogged with cholesterol which puts you at risk of chronic illnesses. Or you can eat healthily but will never get a fit physique due to the lack of exercise. The thing is, always complement your balanced diet program with a doable workout schedule.

3. Never give up on your dreams as long as your body is well

The journey to being a pro cheerleader is riddled with challenges. And it’s not just about physical hardships like changing your diet and daily schedule just to exercise. The challenges will involve trying you emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

If you were to give in to these trials, you would immediately fail to reach your pro cheer dream. As long as you breathe, never surrender. In the words of Jillian Michaels, the personal trainer, “Unless you puke, faint, or die, keep going.”

4. Use your worst moments as strength to improve yourself

There are many ways on how to handle setbacks and negative emotions. Brooding or throwing in the towel certainly aren’t two of them. UFC fighter Ronda said, “I train to be the best in the world on my worst day.” Every time you feel frustrated and disappointed, use these emotions as fuel to complete your exercise routine.

5. Supplement your physical lackings with a strong wit

Not everyone is created equally. You possess strengths that others don’t. You also won’t progress at the same pace as everybody else. But that doesn’t mean they are better than you. This is the belief Martina Hingis held in her heart when she became the youngest tennis player to win a grand slam and be ranked #1 in the entire world.

She said, “I didn’t have the same fitness or ability as other girls, so I had to beat them with my mind.” Don’t worry about not being as good as other pro cheerleaders or auditionees. If you have the drive and the mentality to be a pro cheerleader, you’ll find a way of your own to succeed that’s different from the traditional ways.

Quotes can be interpreted in various ways. Although some may seem negative when understood literally, they can still be deciphered in a positive light. With every quote you come across, do your best to give a good meaning to it. It’s one strategy to foster a positive outlook in life, live in happiness, and pursue your goals.
