Pro Cheer Beauty: 7 Lifestyle Choices That Slow Aging
The fountain of youth isn’t actually a myth. Want to know the truth? We can influence aging by the actions we take. Yes, our lifestyle choices play a role in the aging process.
I’m not saying that we can control natural aging. What I’m trying to say is that we can stop aging from happening prematurely (earlier than expected) by changing some of our habits. Here are 7 simple tips that will help.
1. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen.
Sunscreen works by filtering our ultraviolet radiation that causes wrinkles and leathery skin. To prevent premature skin aging, make sure to use sunscreen that’s labeled “broad spectrum.” This protects you from both UVA and UVB rays.
2. Exercise more often.
Are you still aspiring to become a pro cheerleader? If yes, now is a good opportunity to incorporate more exercise into your week. Exercise will enable you to achieve toned and stronger muscles. Working out will also impact your skin by boosting the delivery of oxygen and nutrients. At the same time, waste products are carried away.
3. Consume omega-3 fatty acids.
You probably already know that omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial to your health. On the topic of aging: Study shows that increasing intake of omega-3 fatty acids protects against cognitive decline. As an aspiring pro cheerleader, it’s important to keep your mind sharp! Omega-3 also helps your skin stay soft and supple.
4. Ditch processed foods.
Is your current diet packed with highly processed foods? These foods often contain refined carbohydrates and sugar that damage collagen and increase inflammation. The best healthy diet is one that includes whole, natural foods.

5. Take vitamin C.
Vitamin C plays a role in synthesizing collagen, a protein that gives structure to your skin and bones. In our skin, vitamin C is abundant in our epidermis and dermis. Make sure that you’re getting enough vitamin C in your diet by taking supplements (based on your doctor’s recommendation) and eating vitamin C-rich foods. Examples are citrus fruits, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, and tomatoes.
6. Adopt a positive mindset.
Are you often stressed? Positive thinking may sometimes come off as a cliche, but several studies show how powerful it is for promoting longevity. Too much emotional stress, on the other hand, accelerates aging and makes you prone to diseases.
Here are small but helpful tips to achieve a positive mindset:
- Use positive affirmation to set the tone for the day.
- Find the positive in negative situations.
- Focus on the next best thing you can do.
- Surround yourself with positive thinkers!
7. Drink less alcohol.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that alcohol destroys the skin. If you want to look older sooner, go ahead and continue drinking alcohol. Here’s what alcohol does: It dehydrates the skin and triggers inflammation (that explains the flushing and redness). You can start cutting back by trying low-alcohol alternatives. Schedule at least 3 alcohol-free days of the week!
