Pro Cheer Health: 6 Simple Food Swaps to Improve Your Diet

Want to be healthier for an upcoming pro cheer or dance audition? Of course, you do. If you're aiming to lose some extra pounds and increase your energy, it can be tempting to follow celebrity diets that are restrictive. But the truth is, simple actions make a big difference - like food swaps. To help you achieve the best body, we've compiled a list of six food swaps.

(Remember: You can eat healthily without compromising on taste!)

1. Fruit instead of a sugary dessert.

Eating fruit will satisfy your sweet tooth. Fruits are a wonderful source of essential nutrients and antioxidants. They're also lower in calories! Instead of ice cream, refrigerate some berries, banana slices, or watermelons. Serve and enjoy!

2. Cauli rice instead of white rice.

Reduce your carbohydrate intake by eating cauliflower rice instead of white rice. Cauliflower rice can be made by simply pulsing cauliflower in a food processor until it turns into granules. Cauliflower is high in fiber which promotes fullness and keeps your calorie intake down.

3. Extra virgin olive oil instead of canola oil.

Extra virgin olive oil does not only taste better, but it's also packed with polyphenols, compounds that protect against aging and helps with weight management. On the other hand, canola oil is highly refined. Consuming too much of it and other vegetable oils can lead to inflammation.

4. Greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt.

Greek yogurt has less sugar than regular yogurt. 100 grams of greek yogurt has only 3.2 grams of sugar, while regular yogurt has about 16 grams of sugar. Greek yogurt also contains more protein, which helps you stay fuller longer.

5. Coffee instead of an energy drink.

While energy drinks provide vitamins and amino acids, they often contain way more sugar than a regular cup of coffee. If you need a boost in energy, prepare black coffee instead. You can even add a tablespoon of grass-fed butter and sweeten your coffee with stevia - that's zero sugar and a source of high-quality energy for the day!

6. Veggies instead of chips.

Yes, the vegetables can be the healthiest snacks you can eat whenever you crave for something munchy. Chop some cucumbers, carrots, and celery sticks. Use a veggie-based dip or cream cheese.

Rules can frustrate you when it comes to following a healthier diet. But these simple food swaps prove that you can cut out the bad stuff and still be able to enjoy eating. Need more food and fitness tips for the auditions? Check out these related blog posts:
