The Best Ways to Develop a Winning Mindset for the Pro Cheer Auditions
Everyone wants to achieve their goals and dream about reaching them every single day. For aspiring pro cheerleaders, that mental image of standing in the field’s glamorous spotlight cheering for your team turns into a movie that you would love to play repeatedly in your head.
But in a competition, not everyone becomes a winner. In auditions, there will be accepted and rejected applicants and the rejected ones will feel like giving up on their pro cheer dream. Sometimes, even when the auditions haven’t started yet, a lot of candidates get discouraged due to small mistakes and hash words by others.
To fight this you need to develop a winner’s mindset. A mindset that doesn’t falter to negativity. A mindset that no matter what happens, you won’t let go of your dreams until you succeed. Follow these strategies:
1. Focus on passing the auditions, not the other passers
If you have set your game plan for the auditions, stick to it. Don’t keep on following what other candidates or alumni pro cheerleaders do. Don’t compare yourself to them. This way, you’ll maintain a healthy mindset and have more time to think about your audition preparations.
2. Be patient as you prepare
No shy person became a confident public speaker overnight. Even ballerinas go through multiple falls before they become a pro. You need patience to build yourself and become an ideal pro cheerleader. Don’t let failure frustrate you. You’ll eventually achieve victory if you religiously follow the process.
3. Believe in your dreams and your abilities
Vision, willpower, resilience, and the ability to start acting comes from belief. If you firmly believe that being a pro cheerleader is who you are, you’ll be unstoppable in becoming one. Remember, “Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.” - Suzy Kassem.
4. Do whatever it takes to pass
Frustration and doubt aren’t the only emotions that endanger your pro cheer dream, discouragement is also something you shouldn’t allow inside your head. When one audition preparation goal won’t work, look for a better alternative. Don’t allow setbacks to discourage and make you quit.
5. Nourish your mind with positivity and optimism
The moment you wake up, affirm yourself with words of encouragement like “I can and will pass the auditions!” They might be simple words but they are the most critical part at this time as it will majorly affect your mindset for the day.
Every audition prep will be a challenge for you, but the struggle won’t matter because you’ve already affirmed yourself that you can face them head-on.
6. Don’t rely on your talent alone for winning
We all have our own talents. Some of us have been good at dancing since birth. Others have an aptitude for applying makeup. But, innate skills alone won’t fare well in front of the judges. A well-rounded candidate will get their favor and this kind of candidate has a mindset of a true winner.
True winners identify their weaknesses and work on them. Next, they focus on polishing their talents. These are the things you should do. You must be prepared to successfully do whatever is asked to secure a win in every area or scoring.
7. Be with the right crowd
People with a loser’s mindset complain a lot. In their complaining, they quit on achieving their dreams. Most of the time, they’ll victimize you and destroy your confidence. Then, you get infected with their loser’s mindset. If you’re in a group and feel like they’re stopping you from who you want to be, leave that group.
Make friends with the ones who discuss winning strategies and focus on themselves. Winners empower each other because they love healthy competitions and they feel happy watching other people succeed. They treat competitions as an inspiration and a way to improve themselves.
8. Always take action and take everything as a win
Taking action even if you don’t want to can sometimes be a gamble. The uncertainty of victory clouds our motivation. But, it doesn’t really matter whether to win or lose because acting on your goals produced solid results rather than doing nothing. However, you must be prepared to deal with either outcome.
Don’t worry about losing. A loss still is a win in the winner’s mindset. This is because there’s always an opportunity to compete again and that loss just gave an important experience to be used in the next competition.
A winning mindset isn’t something we are born with. It is developed through optimism and having self-belief. If you don’t have a winning mindset, don’t worry. Just follow the tips above and you’ll have a mind of a champion in no time.
